The Night of the Courtesan

Jouko Ollikainen is an illustrator, graphic designer and artist. Above all, he is an almost obsessive innovator and creator of art. Ever since he was young, his passion has been to see the unseen and to experiment with different techniques and materials in his work. Ollikainen’s pop-up exhibition ‘Royal Cat Portraits II’ is an ode to the royal cats of the animal kingdom. In these portrait paintings, the cats are depicted in a historical context, complete with costumes and settings, portraying the animals as royalty. Vibrant, muted colours and gilding emphasise the felines, which often display humorous traits. In her works, Ollikainen frequently uses recycled vintage frames, which lend their own historical dimension to the pieces.
