Anu Hakola

2250

Anu Hakola is a visual artist and landscape architect originally from Helsinki who lives and works in Italy. In her paintings, Hakola explores the connection between the surrounding landscape and the human being. The landscape is presented as a metaphorical form of narrative, in which the boundaries between the inner landscape of the mind and the surrounding landscape dissolve into a porous interplay.

The ‘Evening Tales’ series explores the influence of the landscape and the environment on sleep and the act of falling asleep. The paintings are stories in their own right, like bedtime stories, depicting the local Italian landscape and the points where it meets the imagination it inspires; the liminal space between day and night, wakefulness and sleep. The boundaries of the evening soften; they open up from the confines of time into timelessness.
