Jasmin Anoschkin

Jasmin Anoschkin is a versatile artist and designer whose work includes ceramic and wood sculptures, paintings, drawings and videos. She lives and works in Helsinki. Jasmin Anoschkin is also a member of the Arabia Art Association. Anoschkin’s work has been widely exhibited in Finland and abroad over the past ten years.

Jasmin Anoschkin was included in Gumbostrand Konst & Form’s group exhibition “Vår” in spring 2018. Artist statement Jasmin Anoschkin| Gumbostrand Konst & Form – “I carve wood with chainsaw and axe and shape clay with a rough grip. My works are jagged and rooted in their underlying themes, strongly connected to childhood imagination, games and toys. Painted and coloured wood is a natural material for me.

I imagine my animals around a birthday cake, in a carnivalesque fairytale world, where behind the laughter there are always difficult questions about difference and how to tolerate difference. No one is perfect, but it is imperfection that makes animals human.

I have been described as a flamboyant expressionist who releases his works to the world so fresh that they convey a genuine sense of the artist’s presence. I do not bow to the unwritten laws of sculpture, nor do I follow the modernist sculptural tradition.

I have also been known to break the conventions of hanging and my exhibitions have often been complete installations in which storytelling plays an important part. Still, my works are individuals with a keen sense of self-awareness, whose stories may change along the way. They have the ability to laugh at themselves and the pride to look exactly as they do.
