The Heiress of St Helena

Päivi Hintsanen is a visual artist and non-fiction writer based in Jyväskylä, Finland. In her artworks, reality and imagination intertwine to create dreamlike places and characters. Her subjects reflect the many facets of life: even melancholy moments contain reasons for joy, while scenes brimming with playful humour can reveal a poignant sense of stillness.

Narrative plays an important role in her art, although the story is not always immediately apparent and often takes shape only in the viewer’s imagination. Hintsanen is also known for making colour theory accessible to a wider audience. Her writings and website, coloria.net, offer an extensive exploration of the world of colours and colourants.
