About the work

Sculptor and designer Arni Aromaa uses ceramics, glass and wood as his main materials. In recent years, he has explored the combination of ceramics and glass in the firing process. Aromaa’s techniques include casting and mould-pressing and hand-building for larger works.

In addition to ceramics, Arni Aromaa uses wood as a material for sculptures. The themes of the works are inspired by nature, but their visual language, finishing and execution techniques draw heavily on Aromaa’s training as an industrial designer.

Aromaa works as an industrial designer in his own design studio. “Art is a strong inspiration for me in my design work and I draw inspiration for art from the world of design,” says Aromaa, describing the dialogue between the two perspectives.

The artwork is ready for wall-mounting horizontally or vertically. You can also view the artwork in our gallery before the final decision.

Arni Aromaa has participated in numerous group exhibitions and his work is in the collections of the State Government, the Finnish Museum of Glass and the EMMA Museum of Modern Art, among others. He has received several design awards, including the State Prize for Design 2012 together with his colleague Sauli Suomela.

In recent years he has focused on exploring the possibilities of combining ceramics with glass through the wood firing process. The Magic Pond reliefs are the tangible result of this research, where pressed ceramic pieces blend seamlessly with the colourful glass material, creating impressive wall sculptures.
