Petra Kinnunen is a Helsinki-based visual artist and dancer who works across a range of disciplines, including painting, glass, ceramics and crafts. Her art is characterised by surrealist elements, symbolism, themes of femininity, fleeting moments and stages of life. In her paintings, Kinnunen explores both personal and social themes, as well as the layers of her own identity. Kinnunen’s works have been featured in numerous exhibitions in Finland and internationally, and have also appeared in Finnish television programmes.
The ‘Butterflies and Cocoons’ exhibition explores the rollercoaster of emotions and places of refuge. Inspired by the world of the Cups suit from the Tarot, the exhibition takes the viewer on a journey through the landscapes of emotions, imagination and inner experiences. The works feature themes such as inspiration, joy, friendship, love, sorrow, fulfilment and nostalgia. In each work, one can discover a subtle connection to the world of the amusement park – its forms, aesthetics and memories.
