Tea Honkasalo (b. 1973) lives in Espoo. She trained as an interior architect and works as an interiors journalist.
Honkasalo’s works convey a strong sense of space, even when their subjects are tightly cropped details. In her paintings, she brings together two of her interests—floral arrangements and interiors—and explores how they influence one another. Through her work, Honkasalo seeks to show that flowers are beautiful even when they have wilted and shed their petals. Although she depicts still objects, movement is an important element in her work. Light and colour create the mood of each painting, which shifts from one moment and season to the next.
Tea Honkasalo graduated in interior architecture from the Lahti Institute of Design in 1997.
