Tarja Laine

Tarja Laine is a Finnish visual artist based in Amsterdam. She graduated from Wackers Academie in 2018, specialising in oil painting. Since graduating, Laine has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

At the heart of Laine’s paintings is her technique, which allows her to observe her subjects through abstraction—that is, as lines of particular shapes and as areas of colour and tonal value. Her paintings emphasise the process of looking and the close observation of details in nature. They combine figurative and abstract elements, reflecting how what the eye sees can also be transformed into simplified forms.
