Sirkku Ala-Harja

Sirkku Ala-Harja is a visual artist and sailor who specialises in capturing movement through layers of colour and brushwork. Her poetic paintings glow and pulse with a rich spectrum of colours. They are like visual poems, evoking underwater moods or fleeting echoes of layers of history.
Ala-Harja is also an expert in Chinese and Japanese ink painting techniques. In her own art, she uses a variety of tools and materials. Her studio on Harakka Island has a significant influence on her work. Before studying art at Aalto University and the Academy of Fine Arts, she studied natural sciences at the University of Helsinki.
