Samuli Heimonen was born in Saarijärvi, Central Finland. Heimonen, who currently lives and works in Jyväskylä, graduated with a Master of Arts from the Master of Fine Arts programme of the University of Art and Design in 2002.
He held his first solo exhibition in 2000 and has participated in group exhibitions in Finland and abroad since 1998. Samuli Heimonen was elected Young Artist of the Year in 2008 and was also awarded the Tapperie Art Society Medal in 2003.
Samuli Heimonen’s works can be found in the collections of the Finnish State, Helsinki City Art Museum, Tampere Art Museum, Paulo Foundation, Salo Art Museum, Kouvola Art Museum, Mikkeli Art Museum, Tuusula Art Museum, Herala and Mannila Foundation and private collections such as Capman. Publicly, Samuli Heimonen’s works are on display in Porvoo Library, the Ruusupuisto building of the University of Jyväskylä and Kangasniemi Municipal Hall.
Samuli Heimonen’s paintings often feature various animals, fairy-tale and dream-inspired characters and monsters, which on closer inspection reveal something human and identifiable.
