Lotta-Lucia Laine

Lotta-Lucia Laine is a Helsinki-based visual artist whose primary medium is painting. Alongside painting, she also works with ceramics and craft-based art. Laine graduated from the Turku Arts Academy in 2020. She has held several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions throughout Finland.

Laine works primarily with large-scale acrylic paintings that combine figurative and abstract expression. Thick applications of paint and bursts of colour invite viewers to pause and explore the works more closely. On closer inspection, the varied textures of the painted surface and drawn marks become visible, their interplay creating an illusion of movement.

A sense of incompleteness reflects the past: something that once happened, was present, and has since moved on or even disappeared. Colour is important to Laine, and blue in particular, along with other hues associated with water, frequently recurs in her work.
