Larson Österberg

1970

Larson Österberg (b. 1970) is a Finnish visual artist. Originally from Helsinki, Österberg now lives in Hanko, where his studio is also located. The proximity of the sea influences his work: he is known both for his maritime paintings and for his warm, colourful abstract pieces. Österberg has been painting for nearly 30 years and also teaches oil painting. His work has been exhibited in Finland, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Österberg’s paintings often feature dreamlike jungle scenes and meadow landscapes. He is inspired and fascinated by the Old Dutch Masters and their way of highlighting subjects such as floral arrangements by setting them against dark backgrounds. References to various movements and styles from art history can therefore be found throughout Österberg’s work.
