Jonna Johansson

Jonna Johansson is a visual artist based in Helsinki. She has studied Fine Arts at the University of Brighton in England (BA) and at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, MFA (Painting Department). Johansson has held several solo exhibitions and participated in major group exhibitions in Finland and abroad.

Jonna Johansson’s art explores embodiment and being human in a broad way, and also tackles themes that can be taken to heart. Johansson’s works contain references to themes of sustainable development, equality and compassion.

Alongside Johansson’s powerfully rendered female imagery alternate the seemingly gentle ‘Bunnies’, cartoonish bunny paintings and ceramic sculptures that conceal a sharp critique of attitudes beneath their ironic illustrative surface. Johansson works her paintings in a strongly expressive manner in the spirit of action painting and pop art.
