Jaana Mattsson

Jaana Mattsson is a visual artist based in Helsinki who lives and works in her studio-home on the island of Kemiö and in the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki.

In Jaana Mattsson’s paintings, gardens, landscapes and interiors unfold as places where the familiar and the imagined meet. The works are united by a rich palette, the presence of light, and small details that invite the viewer to pause for a closer look. Her creative process is both intense and intuitive.

Mattsson’s paintings are like fairy tales for adults; in them, the possible and the impossible coexist, allowing the viewer to step beyond the bounds of everyday life. For the artist, each painting is a journey, where the destination is revealed little by little during the process. What matters the most is the joy of life.
