About the work

Teemu Kylvö, who lives and works in the glass village of Nuutajärvi, draws inspiration for his work from nature, colours and graphic forms. The shores and forests of his home town remain important places for Teemu; for example, the idea for the ‘Meri’ lamp series was conceived one September day on the rocky shore at Kallo in Pori. On the other hand, graphic elements – such as those found in tattoos and graffiti art – also spark his ideas. Combining graffiti art with glass lends Kylvö Design’s pieces a highly original language of form and colour. Each little jellyfish is unique, and their size and shape may vary.

Teemu Kylvö

Teemu Kylvö (b. 1994), from Pori, Finland, set out to pursue his dream at the Nuutajärvi Glass School. Having trained as an ICT technician, Kylvö felt that a technical career was not for him. Even then, he dreamed of a profession that would allow him to express his creativity through hands-on work.

“After comprehensive school, I trained as an ICT technician, and it was during that time that I first became interested in glass art. In spring 2016, I applied and was accepted to study at Nuutajärvi Glass Village. Through my studies, I have met designers and glassblowers with years of experience in the field. Alongside learning different techniques, the knowledge they have shared with me has been particularly valuable,” says Teemu.
