About the work
My works are colourful, exotic and exuberant, featuring animals, birds, flowers and intricate details. They are inspired by the natural history books of my childhood. Through my work, I seek to highlight the diversity and beauty of nature. Each piece is hand-built from glazed porcelain clay and bears the distinct marks of the making process.

Kristi Viita-aho
Kristi Viita-aho (b. 1972, Pärnu, Estonia) is a ceramic artist currently based in Mänttä, Finland. I work with porcelain clay, creating my pieces intuitively in the moment, often without a detailed plan.
A major source of inspiration has been the natural history books of my childhood (Loomade elu), whose illustrations revealed the diversity and rich colours of the natural world. Each piece is unique, and all my works feature colour, movement and a strong sense of the maker’s hand.
My enthusiasm for ceramics began in 2010 with a course at an adult education centre. As a ceramic artist, I am entirely self-taught. In my youth, I attended Pärnu Art School for eight years, followed by a one-year preparatory course at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
