Mirja Ilkka is a visual artist originally from Virrat who now lives and works in Helsinki. She studied at the Repin Institute and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Her striking, atmospheric paintings are both dark and hopeful.
Her works explore colour and surface with a free, intuitive approach. Through abstracted forms and rich textures, viewers can discover echoes of the beauty of nature. Light brushstrokes, together with a sense of space and rhythm, leave room for personal interpretation. A closer look reveals hints of the sea, flowers, plants and animals.
