Laura Pehkonen is a ceramicist and visual artist based in Helsinki who graduated with a Master of Arts (TaM) from Aalto University in 2014. In recent years, she has created large-scale public ceramic wall installations, commissioned by, amongst others, the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM), the Espoo Museum of Modern Art (EMMA) and the National Commission for Art in Public Spaces. In addition to ceramics, Pehkonen works in her own studio with wood and mixed-media paintings. Pehkonen’s works are unique abstract sculptures and paintings that leave the interpretation open to the viewer.

Pehkonen’s works emphasise the texture of the material and the traces of handcrafting. In her practice, she makes extensive use of various ceramic techniques and materials from different periods and cultures. He is also particularly interested in the dialogue between materials. The exhibition is not merely a collection of finished works, but also an insight into the creative process – into how an idea takes shape as a work and how the works continue the dialogue amongst themselves, giving rise to new variations and experiments.
